Introduction Sandvik Hard Materials develops, manufactures and markets a wide range of cemented carbide products that help to improve the productivity and profitability of our customers. The Sandvik Hard Materials Research & Development department has a complete pilot plant for manufacturing as well as advanced analysis equipment and a workshop for application testing in U.K. We are experts in materials science and work in an international environment. Beside the current R&D facility in Coventry, U.K., Sandvik Hard Materials is establishing a R&D Centre in Wuxi, China to further extend our research capabilities. The Sandvik Hard Materials R&D Centre is looking for a R&D engineer; focusing on further strengthening our applications development and modelling capabilities. Working at Sandvik Hard Materials R&D in Wuxi will give you the chance to work with product development and materials processing using advanced equipment and technology. You will develop good contacts with our production units strategically positioned around the globe and also with research institutes and universities.
The Role The role will involve: •Development of novel products and process in support of our diverse range of applications. •Modelling and simulation of product performance and material processing. •Development in application testing method and capabilities. •Analyzing material properties and connecting those properties with customer demands. •Working in an international team and liaising with suppliers/customers on technical issues. •Collaborating with internal and external research units.
Your Profile The successful candidate will: •Possess a MSc / MEng in Science or Engineering and preferably a PhD. •Have relevant experience of numerical simulation techniques such as FEM, preferably using ABAQUS or ANSYS, as well as knowledge of CAD/CAM/CAE preferably NX Unigraphics. •Possess good inter-personal and communication skills with experience of leading multidisciplinary teams. •Have a good command of English (oral and written) and presentation skills. •Have the ability to travel globally and occasionally. The following would be advantageous: •An understanding and interest in materials science, metallurgy and/or powder processing and characterization, preferably in powder metallurgy, especially cemented carbides. •Knowledge in machining e.g. metal cutting would be beneficial. •Experience of designing and developing process tooling, test rigs and fixtures as well as an understanding of sensors and instrumentation including computer interfaces.
